A cold has caught me

Oh, a cold it has caught me and I’m feelin’ so blue. I’m about as darned worthless as a smelly old shoe. There’s a fire in my throat but none in my head. My snot glands are runnin’, my brain cells are dead … — Howlin’ Garglin’ Wolfe I get sick only about once every five or seven years. Lucky that way. But when something does catch me, oh my. I’m currently lying abed, sucking zinc lozenges and guzzling hot tea. No reason I can’t keep posting (it’s more entertaining than playing another game of spider solitaire). I’m just saying…

Wow. You know that woman who drove into the parade crowd in Oklahoma? Apparently at least some of the media seems more than usually pre-programmed to blame the non-existent gun. David Codrea points out that the car-killer babe is apparently an Obama fan, too. I don’t know about you, but this sort of vague, ill-reported United Nations “science” makes me want to go right out and eat bacon. Maple flavored. Crisp. Oh, I have no doubt processed meats don’t qualify as health food, but I also doubt that the big bacon and sausage eaters dying of cancer are otherwise noshing…

Did somebody tell the gods it’s Monday?

Or did the gods invent Mondays in the first place just to spite us? Winter arrived yesterday evening and today we took our first dogwalk in it. That is, I stomped along determinedly while the dogs, in their rain jackets, stared at me aghast and demanded, “Can we go home now?” While winter here in the NorthWET doesn’t involve six-foot drifts of snow or 30-below temperatures (ah, fond memories of Wyoming and Minnesota!), it tends to arrive as suddenly as if someone up there dropped it on our heads. Cold needles of rain are here to stay. —– And of…

It’s just talk so far. And European talk, at that. So take it FWIW. But if banks impose negative interest on customers, controls on withdrawals won’t be far behind. NSA-proof wallpaper? Faraday cages for all! (H/T Laird in comments) We must have common-sense sword control NOW! Fedjudge says DEA raids on legal dispensaries in California are against the law. The more news and studies that emerge about Obamacare, the more horrible that horrible program looks. (When companies can manage to get around federal regulations, this is the way humane and profitable health care gets done.) Peter Schiff writes an eloquent…

Funny; “job stress” never caused me to get drunk and bite anybody’s you-know-whats. A bad day at work ever had that effect on you? A bad year? (H/T jed in comments) Speaking of the you-know-whats: Nicki gives a “gun owner who favors gun control” a kick in his. Medical costs going up-up-up? Well, we all know they have been. But more recently, if these stats are correct, medical costs have stabilized. Medical insurance costs, OTOH … Be sure to register that drone you get for Christmas. Did Congress pass a law about this? Article fails to mention such. ADDED: Some…

“Mommy, am I going to die?” Cop shoots four-year-old after he showed up to “help” her injured mother. Clearly all in a day’s work for this callous dude. Missed the family dog, though. Drone defense on a budget. “I want one,” says MJR, who sent the link. White House aide shoots at her cop boyfriend. Much has been made of the fact that this babe is a “special” assistant to Obama, but apparently in WH parlance, “special” is as in “rides the short bus.” Barfetta Barvetta Singletary. Don’t ever ask that woman out on a date. Per Shel in comments,…

An anxious space geek makes good in Hollywood. It’s just common sense that you should be free to shoot illegal home invaders. No matter who employs them. Even when they are “legal” they are still sometimes scum who should not be welcomed in anything that calls itself a civilization. While it’s not as unique as this article implies, the Anevay Frontier Stove looks like cool beans for preppers, campers, and small-house dwellers. Doctor punches out pesky (and phony) ER patient. (I wonder if Japan has laws like ours that forbid doctors to turn anyone away from the ER.) Do not…

Were it not for its nosebleed-high price the Blackphone 2 would be starting to tempt me in the direction of a smartphone. Here’s another person who disappeared and still managed to have a regular life. Details, media people. Details, please. (Though in this case the woman clearly doesn’t want them known.) Gun store moves three blocks. Causes hysteria. Sigh. Nice idea. S’pose it’ll have any result? And sometimes the “good guy” isn’t. OTOH, since he’s nowhere to be found, how can anybody be sure that the alleged (inept) “good guy” with the gun ever actually intended to be helpful? Maybe…

Don’t say I never post anything nice about cops. Seeking a job isn’t supposed to be a crime. So why should it make you a criminal suspect? Willie Nelson’s new pot brand gets private equity funding. 🙂 Speaking of cannabis … slowly, slowly even politicians are beginning to see the real effects of drug bans. Selfies: deadlier than sharks. Why are Muslims allowed to do what Christians are not? Ha ha. And Mark Zuckerberg thought $100 million would change the government school system in just one city. Oh well, he’s young. He might still learn. Another big “surprise.” Kids are…
