Dog dilemma

One of my dogs … the beautiful Nadja … … is, to put it nakedly, mad as a hatter. Always has been. She came to me as a foster seven years ago. She was probably about a year old then, and in her short life she’d already had a litter of puppies, been in an accident that damaged a leg, and finally been abandoned in her backyard when her family moved away. (A neighbor noticed after she’d been untended for a week.) The first day I had her she busted out of a crate and tried to chew her way…

There are so many dogs being shot by cops that they now have a Facebook page. (H/T MLS) But this about takes the cake for puppycides. Gun-rights advocates outbid cops in a gun buyback. Joel already covered this better than I, but you’ll be glad shocked furious to know the ATF has been granted one more power to abuse. They can now steal your stuff in drug crimes. The ATF? Drug crimes? But you see, it’s okay, because as usual in these cases, there don’t actually have to be any drugs or any crimes. So it’s not like they’re exceeding…

Fedgov issues “healthy meal standards” for schools that are so bureaucratic they threaten an actual healthy meal program (that even teaches kids about growing their own food). Don’t think I’ve ever seen anything that shows so profoundly how tangled and deep the relationships of snitches can be with both handlers and targets. Wish Mr. Aoki had agreed to talk more before he died. Not that anything he said would have been believable. The Tesla Museum: closer to becoming a reality thanks to a cartoonist’s crowdsourcery. Two cases in which dogs died in hot cars, apparently because air conditioning systems failed…

Tuesday miscellany

(H/T furrydoc for that one. Great find, furrydoc. Hope it’s true the injured dog survived.) What information overload does to your brain. Speaking of which … how to deal with email overload. (Tip o’ hat to JG.) Another unimportant nobody who doesn’t trust the cloud. Some guy called Woz … Obamacare will create chaos. No sh*t, Sherlock. I know this is last week’s news and therefore happened in the ‘Netly equivalent of the Jurassic. It’s still marvelously weird. That angry farmer with the tractor deserves one more link’s worth of immortality.

Tuesday morning data dump and tab clearing

For many of these links, H/Ts to MJR, PT, H, JS, WL, and I hope I’m not forgetting anybody else! First and best, this statement by MamaLiberty has been getting around — but deserves to get around more. “I Carry a Gun — Get Over It.” This one has also been getting around, and for the opposite reasons. At least one person in this DEA horror show seems to have gotten his just deserts. Appears the fedgov’s IP thuggery might soon be affecting our health. Silent Circle. From Phil Zimmerman & friends. Collect water on your own property, go to…

Our politicians should be so partisan! (H/T MJR) Another reason to have a dog. Or at least let the kidlets play in the dirt. Sweet dog-and-his-boy story via MamaLiberty. Oy. Now the security state is worried about drone hijackings. Me, I figure some of my friends could make better uses of drones than the gummint ever will. Bacon or bagel for breakfast? Well, if you don’t count the nitrates … Wendy McElroy has a new book out. Sounds like a must-read. Small-scale farming. Not just cool and trendy — but creating a new profit model? Considering relocating offshore? Panama just…

I like what Tam calls her miscellany posts: tab clearing. Sometimes I have so many “Oh! I must write about this!” articles open that there’s nothing to do but just sigh and toss them all out at you in their naked form.* So here goes: Speaking of naked, in the first of today’s Heroic Protectors in Blue items, well, read for yourself. I’d rather not put it in a family publication. If a cop did that to my daughter I’d serve his gonads to the dogs. Second Heroic Protectors item: DHS trains Border Patrol agents to run and hide if…

Responses to the Nazgul

So how did you react when you heard the woefully misnamed Supreme Court had upheld Obamacare? I first felt a flat, cool anger — without passion because it was so without surprise. I had expected the court would shoot down the individual mandate while leaving the rest — a recipe for economic disaster, of course, since the individual mandate pays for the whole — but a snarkily satisfying slap in the face and at least a small nod in the direction of the Constitution. But nothing those government supremacists do could surprise anybody who’s observing carefully. Their actual decision is…

EPA requires refiners to add unobtanium (or at least unable-to-obtanium) to their products. (Via Wendy McElroy) How to make an herbal raw honey ointment to treat burns and wounds, provided you don’t mind slathering something that looks like gelled split pea soup on yourself or those you love. And speaking of those you love but (take it from me) others probably don’t, Malaysia Airlines, bless the marvelously shriveled little hearts of its executives, is experimenting with child-free sections on its aircraft. I’ve marveled at how, when I get on an airplane, I’m always seated in the crying-baby section. Or next…

In the news you can use department: “Situational Awareness” by our own MamaLiberty. Nice work, Mama. Though I’d like to know more of the background of this particular incident, it appears that the War on Food continues to ravage the Country Formerly Known As the Land of the Free. (H/T/ JS) “A Biblical Threat to National Security.” And you plan to persuade Muslims how? that the U.S. military isn’t conducting a holy crusade against them? (Tip o’ hat to J.B.) “Who Destroyed the Middle Class?” Sooooooo, do you think PBS would report this sympathetically if a Caucasian family decided to…
