Some doings at Claire’s Cabal

I don’t mention Claire’s Cabal much. But it seems time for a small update. First, we have a couple of public areas in the forum, to give a small taste. I’ve just posted a copy of this excellent article by Silver where anyone can see it. If you thought you knew every malign effect of the Federal Reserve, he describes one you probably hadn’t considered. Second, we’re in the process of starting up a “Members Helping Members” section where volunteers can offer assistance with anything from transportation and a place to stay to professional advice. Just announced it today and…

  • Did anybody here think the MSM really meant all those editorials about how they were going to be more politically unbiased from now on? Here’s USA Today defining the entire alt-right movement as “espousing white nationalism.” And here’s Alan Dershowitz having to point out that Steve Bannon is no anti-Semite. I’m not fond of either the alt-right or Bannon. But get real, media. Get real. Your life depends on it.
  • And they ask — they seriously ask! — “Will America Now Have a Pravda?” No, you willfully blind jackasses: America has had a Pravda and an Izvestia for many years now.

  • Chelsea Manning has asked Obama to cut her ghastly sentence to time served. Good luck, Chelsea.
  • Larry Correia writes a guide for liberals who are suddenly interested in gun ownership.
  • The whimpering “safe space” infants aren’t only on college campuses. Andrew Torba, founder of Gab.ai has been banned from the directory and community of the famous venture capital outfit Y Combinator because his very existence makes people feel “unsafe.”

  • If you’ve wondered what would happen if the government banned cash, take a look at India. Right now. (And why is there always somebody who says, “I’m in favor of [this awful thing], if only they would have [committed the outrage in a way that didn’t hurt me so much]”?)
  • One more lefty recounts how he and the Democrats screwed up.
  • Over at TZP, Y.B. ben Avraham describes a “fixer” — and the insane lengths and costs NYC residents have to go through for self defense in a corrupt political system.

  • That did not go well and other tales of this week

No, that definitely did not go well. I awoke from a general anesthetic Thursday morning to discover that they hadn’t performed the minor surgery I’d signed on for. Beyond my skills, the surgeon told me shortly. I didn’t see a sign of how bad it was until I was poking around in there. Really. So sorry. Don’t worry. This isn’t a case of “We’re sewing you shut and sending you home to die.” More like “We’re referring you to some specialist you can’t afford even with insurance and if said specialist slips up you’ll have major quality of life issues…

  • Bill Weld has turned the Libertarian Party into even more of a fiasco than it’s previously been. He’s not only driving away individuals with his ignorant anti-gunnery and his preening support for Hillary Clinton. Even state LP organizations are holding their noses and running from him.
  • Mike Jordan, who participated in the Cascadia Rising exercise and is busily answering questions for a Living Freedom interview, sends along these two links — mostly of interest to communications folks: Cascadia Rising Resources and the Department of (Achtung!) Homeland Security’s National Interoperability Field Operations Guide (which Mike say is damn good considering the highly suspect source. Scary, but also full of wonderful info, he adds).

  • Small post about small happenings

As I dumpster dive through the post office recycling box this election season, I note a curious thing. Although the glossy political flyers have been sliding in fast and thick, I haven’t seen a single one sent by a candidate him- or herself or by a “Committee to Elect …” a candidate. It’s all been from PACS. And nearly all against somebody, not for anybody. In many races, even big ones, there’s been not a single bit of mail. But oddly, in one state-house brawl that I’d have considered quite obscure, the flyers have been … well, flying. On many…
